With stunning views from the swimming pool and restaurants across the seas to Praslin, La Domaine has a fantastic position towards the north end of La Passe, the island’s main settlement. Whether you are lounging in the huge infinity pool, sipping a cocktail at the bar or enjoying your breakfast in the buffet restaurant, you will be treated to uninterrupted views of the sea and some of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll find in the Seychelles.
While the reception and restaurants share this incredible view, the rooms themselves are set back from the sea across the road from the public areas in a lush garden. This is not as bad as it sounds – given there are only a handful of motor vehicles on the island it is more of a pedestrian walkway, with the heaviest traffic coming when the local children race their bicycles down the nearby hill.
La Digue is renowned for its beaches, with Anse Source D’Argent frequently gaining the title of best beach in the world. Yet the majority accommodation on the island is based in the town or up a hill away from the sea, and the beaches in town – while nice enough – do pale in comparison to some of the beautiful, wild beaches on the south coast.
La Domaine’s beach is no different; nice enough but if you have the energy to cycle to another beach you will. Yet La Domaine’s stunning infinity pool with its fantastic views more than compensate for this, while one of our favourite swimming beaches on the island, Anse Severe – which also has great snorkelling – is just over the hill and around the corner.
A visit to the spa will take you on a winding journey up the jungle clad hill in a golf buggy, to a facilities that have been carefully built into the surrounding granite rocks. With a Jacuzzi and steam bath area that looks out into the forest, the setting is perfect for relaxation alone or as a couple – but nothing will prepare you for the spectacular outlook from the treatment rooms.
With a panoramic view across the top of the forest canopy you can see for miles around and across to the island of Praslin and its satellites, and a treatment at sunset here is bound to be an unforgettable experience for you and your partner.
Restaurants & Bars
Combava restaurant offers all day a la carte dining using the freshest of ingredients. On a raised platform bordering the pool the open sided restaurant has views up the beach and out across the sea, while the Santosha restaurant serves breakfast and international buffets with live cooking stations and daily theme nights, as well as the same stunning views and sunsets you’ll enjoy from the pool.
For a drink or two you may wish to visit the infinity pool bar, a great place to enjoy the sunset with a glass of champagne or an expertly mixed cocktail. You can enjoy your drink from the tables or loungers in front of the bar, the sofas to the side or even from inside the pool, with its swim-up seating arrangement.
Alternatively if the sun has set you may wish to visit L’Alambic bar, where you can enjoy a digestif after dinner while listening to the live music and entertainment held nightly at the bar.
Activities, Sport & Recreation
La Domaine offers free snorkel hire with a map of the best spots on the island, as well as free mountain bike hire to help reach them. There are a number of children’s bikes and adult bicycles with child seats but you may need to book in advance if you have small children.
The swimming pool is one of the best we have seen in Seychelles – deep and refreshing, and naturally cleaned with an ozone system, you can while away hours either in or beside the pool taking in the magnificent views.
There are plans to build a fitness centre above the main restaurant that will share these magnificent views, but it was yet to open on our visit.
